1) The first annual National Buffalo Wing Festival was held over labor day 2002 in (where else but) Buffalo, NY. Approximately 45,000 people attended the two day event which featured a chicken wing eating contest, various chicken wing cooking competitions, and the crowning of the first ever "Miss Buffalo Wing". 2) It is widely believed that the first ever buffalo wing came from the kitchen of the Anchor Bar and Grill in 1964 in Buffalo, NY.

3) Sonya Thomas, a 100 pound competitive eater from Virginia, holds the record for competitive wing consumption. During the qualifying round of the National Buffalo Wing Eating Championships in Buffalo, NY in September 2003, Sonya consumed a record breaking 134 wings in 12 minutes.
